Mount Rainier National Park

Mount Rainier National Park

Since we moved to Seattle, we have tried to spend nice weekend days hiking.  The hiking options are endless out here and I can’t wait to explore more of the trails.  Sunday we decided to drive out to Mount Rainier National Park. After the 2.5 hour drive, we were eager to get out of the car and start on the hike I had researched – Snow Lake & Bench Lake.  We stopped by the visitor center in Paradise to make sure we were dressed appropriately for the hike.  It was snowing at the visitor center and the surrounding area looked like a winter wonderland.  We quickly learned we would not be going on this hike since the road to the trailhead was closed due to an avalanche. The road isn’t planned to re-open until May.  Instead, we headed back down the mountain below the snow line and hiked Kautz Creek Trail.  We will try for Snow Lake & Bench Lake Trail in the summer.
